Hi there!

Hi! I'm Isabel, a photographer based in Souderton, PA...just a stone's throw from Philadelphia.

I am a wedding photographer specializing in candid photography with relaxed portraits...all the while capturing the moments and special details of the day.

I've created this blog so that you can see my latest work and get to know my wacky life as momma, wife and photographer.

Thanks for stopping by! I can't wait to meet you!

A big, fat swallow your face kinda smile vs. nervous hot mess

Monday is the last day to register for the Shoot the Shot and the Lightroom Workshops! I’m super excited to meet everyone that’s signed up to spend the day with me at studio. The lists of all the “stuff” I plan on covering is huge. The stylized shoot I have planned looks amazing on paper (I can’t wait to see it come together and I’m stoked to be working with some amazing talent and a crazy fun couple).

However, as excited as I am to be hosting another set of workshops, I’m also nervous. While I’m all for sharing and helping people out, I often wonder if I’m going to stand there the day of the workshop and sound like a hot mess that just lucked out and ended up on the road that I’m on. I always host workshops and give out tips and tricks in the hopes that it helps at least one photographer. If I manage to do that, I’m thrilled.

So, this afternoon as I scoured the internet and pulled up my favorite blogs, I smiled. Like a big fat swallow your face kinda smile. One of the amazing photographers that has taken off since the first Shoot the Shot workshop is my friend, Nicole. It makes me incredibly happy to see her business blossoming like a field of wild flowers. She’s now celebrating her second year in business and I LOVE the fact that she includes her audience in the celebration (p.s. I totally entered her contest and you should totally do the same!).

So, my question is…are you coming?!

And because no post is complete without a picture…here’s a snapshot of my thoughts for the stylized shoot. LOVE me some Pinterest!

Wedding Prep: Le Fleur

Ooohhs and ahhhs…it’s what you hear when the flowers arrive to the bridal suite. Everyone gets super happy and giddy…perhaps as a reminder of the festivities of the day. The bouquets just seal the deal and complete the outfit. I love photographing the bouquets…if anything because they’re so beautiful. This past season, I worked with some fabulous teams and below are their gorgeous creations.

Pay it forward.  That’s always been my motto.  And while others disagree with my philosophy…I’m all for sharing and helping and encouraging others to move forward.

When I started out, I had tons of questions. Notebooks full of questions.  Questions that would have me researching on the computer for hours, reading copious amount of books, asking anyone that I knew.  Questions that cut my sleeping hours short since I can’t stop until I find the answer. And over the course of time, I came to the conclusion that I had to figure it all out by myself…in order to do things the way that I wanted to do them…that super picky, amazing way that I’m accustomed to doing things. And it was hard.  It’s still hard.  What I find incredible, though, is that I open my inbox every day and find emails from peers that ask me questions…you know, as if I know the answer.  Oddly enough, though, I do — whether it’s the right answer or not, I don’t know…but it’s what has worked for me — and it makes me smile to know that I’ve helped someone and made things just a little bit easier for them.

After hosting the first Shoot the Shot Workshop in 2010, the requests poured in for more…and now, since I have a shiny new studio I’d love to host another one. BETTER YET! I wanna host TWO! One business…one Lightroom (my editing preference…and I swear, it makes my life soooo much easier!)

The Shoot the Shot Workshop will be held on Monday, February 20, 2012 and The Lightroom Workshop will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2012. If you sign up for both, there’s a discount. I love me some bundlin’ discounts! REGISTRATION ENDS FEBRUARY 6, 2012.

So, if you wanna come hang, hit the BUY NOW button below and sign up!  Space is limited to 15 attendees.

PICK YOUR WORKSHOP

Boat House Row Engagement: Rebekah and Stephen

As they raced on lamp post lit streets, he shifted gears and handled the pedals and she shouted when to go, when to stop and when to turn. His eyes shut. They raced to the nearest Walgreens where he finally had the opportunity to look at his face. As she raced down the aisles in search of Benadryl, with slivers for eyes he looked in the ginormous mirror and screeched…much like in the movie Hitched. Severely allergic to cats, he had come across one and his eyes had swelled shut. Not knowing how to drive a stick shift, he had to drive all the while paying close attention to his side seat driver. Years later, it’s still how they live…he drives, she navigates…and it works perfectly.

Meet Rebekah and Stephen…

Normandy Farms Wedding: Kristin and TJ

Pennsylvania weather has been fickle this season. Two days before Kristin and TJ’s wedding, I was roaming about in jeans, a tee shirt and flops and then…just like that, five inches of snow was dumped on their winter wedding. Albeit the snow was a perfect addition to their day.

A few years after meeting online, they celebrated with family and friends their amazing love story. A story of two amazing individuals that met, fell in love and share a love so grand with those that surround them. Their energy and emotion is palpable. Their smiles are contagious. Their embrace is felt like a warm blanket. They are determined, affectionate, loving, caring and simply a pair of the most genuine people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.

So, on a Pennsylvania snowy day, we shared with Kristin and TJ…

The storm had stopped by the time the day started at Normandy Farms.

Kristin’s gorgeous Maggie Sottero gown.

First glances are magical :)

Right about this time…the storm that was supposedly finished, started up again and light snow started falling. Gorgeous!

Full of humor, their ceremony was so very them.

Kristin and TJ…the weather here still stinks. But, I hope that you’re sitting side by side on a beach in Hawaii, sipping a fruity beverage and soaking in all the warm rays for us back home!

Twenty Eleven - The Year of the Push

Twenty Eleven. At home, we call it the year of the push. I pushed and pushed and pushed. Pushed for more weddings and booked 48. Pushed for more space and opened the studio. Pushed for more help and hired Melissa. Pushed for more awesomeness and got…well, the opportunity to work with some of my most favorite people ever. The couples and families that I worked with in 2011 are amazing. Simply amazing. And, as busy, hectic, crazy and overwhelming as 2011 was, it was also the funnest, exciting, most exhilarating and greatest year so far. I’m excited…beyond excited…to see what 2012 has in store for me.

So, while this was hard, I’ve finally been able to compile a collection of some of my favorite people of 2011.

Northampton Valley Wedding: Bridget and Joe

Bridget wasn’t sure when the long haired, crazy eyed, MC Hammer pant wearing guy started hanging around her more and more…eventually moving right next door to her while they were both in law school. But, over the course of a year, a dignifying haircut, a complete wardrobe change and just getting to know him, Bridget found herself falling in love with Joe. And this past Saturday, we all shared in their amazing wedding day where despite the frigid  January winds, we had a fabulous time.

Bear Creek Mountain Engagement: Megan and Pete

Under the guise of a broken computer, they met at work. After hanging out, passing each other in the hallway and lots of laughs…for five plus years…they’re finally on their way to the altar. Pete, Megan and I spent a chilly yesterday afternoon at Bear Creek Mountain Resort…along with a slew of snowboarders and skiers…and had a great time :)

Photog Friday: The night before a wedding

It’s the night before a wedding and I’m pumped! It’s the start of the season and I’m so excited for what’s in store for 2012!

My outfit’s ready, GPS programmed, second shooter confirmed, itinerary printed out, shot list created and printed out (I also send them to my iPhone so that they’re at the ready). This afternoon, as I was preparing my gear and had it all laid out, I chuckled and thought of all the times that Mike’s told me…”Jeez, what in the world do you have in here?!” Well, here’s the answer…

Aside from my main gear (3 camera bodies, 70-200/2.8, 50/1.2, 85/1.8, 35/1.4, 16-35/2.8, 24-70/2.8, 100/2.8), I have all sorts of gadgets and “stuff” tucked into nooks and crannies of my Think Tank bag. I also have several light stands for my external lighting, that I set up at the reception, (2) 60″ umbrellas for family formals, a soft box, and my 17″ MacBook Pro, which I use to quickly select images on, create and show a same day slideshow at the reception.

1. My Shootsac with a variety of covers to match my outfit

2. 36 CF cards

3. Radio Poppers for triggering external lighting

4. Video lights

5. Card reader

6. Batteries

7. Camera batteries

8. More batteries

9. External Hard Drive for backing up cards as I finish them

10. (4) 580 EX II flashes

11. Crazy Glue

12. Wax (for holding rings and other small trinkets in place)

13. Little attachments for flashes and lighting rigs

14. Colored filters

15. Chalk — never know when you’re going to deface a barn or something :)

16. Scotch tape — never know when you’re going to hem a dress (I also have a sewing kit and an emergency kit stuffed with goodies)

17. Allen wrenches and funky screwdriver

18.  Zip ties

19. Lens brush

20.  Mini flashlight

21. Belt holsters and flash stands

22. Bungie cord

23. Lens cleaning tissues

24. AAA batteries

25. Note cards, pens, rubber bands, hair ties and a little glass rock (never know when you’ll need a prop)

26. Flash sync cord

27. Air blower

I feel like I’m forgetting something…

Green Lane Park Engagement: Katie and Justin

Sunrise sessions have a characteristic about them that I simply love; It’s the start of a new day…full of possibilities. Katie and Justin, who were in town for the holidays, spent a sunrise with me at Green Lane Park and despite the lack of coffee intake that we all suffered from, we had a great time.
