Holly+Wayne : Married | Lambertville Inn Station | New Jersey

After her first dress fitting, Holly and I went to dinner and she told me the sweetest story:

Wayne’s mother and father, when they owned their house, had a small farm on the property and on the farm lived a pair of geese.  I never knew that geese mate for life.  One night a fox got into the coup and killed the female goose.  The male goose was distraught…morned the loss of his love, moped around endlessly, until time passed and the attention that Wayne’s mother had paid to the male goose grew into affection on the goose’s part and he fell in love with her.  Everytime Wayne’s mother would be out hanging laundry, the male goose would hang around at her feet and peck at Wayne’s dad chasing him away if he thought he was getting too close to his new “mate.”  Geese mate for life…

People were bundled and bustling around the Lambertville Winter Festival. Roads were closed, parades were running, ice sculptures were being carved, and in the middle of it all, Holly and Wayne were getting married.  It was a day that took a year to plan, full of details that tie a wedding together, filled with love from close family and friends.

From the moment I was told that they were getting married, I knew I wanted to photograph it.  I wasn’t going to take “no” for an answer; but as the day grew closer, I became a nervous wreck…it was, afterall, one of my dearest friend’s wedding that I would be documenting.    As the day started to unfold and I started snapping away, the nerves started to calm and I was happy to be sharing the most intimate of details with Holly and Wayne as they got ready to say their vows.  Knowing both of them really helped in capturing the details that I knew they wanted to have captured…the cuff links that Wayne meticulously picked out, the bling that Holly would be wearing…the moments in between that made the day special.

After I uploaded the 1,200 images I shot and started going through them, weeding out the ones that I wanted to use for this blog entry and their slideshow, I knew I was up against a hard task.  There are a ton of images that I absolutely love, not so much for their perfect exposure or composition, but because it captures Holly and Wayne and their love for each other.  Even though I’ve been around it for nearly 4 years (am I right, Hol?), it was tear jerking for me to witness it on an even more personal level…kind of like a behind-the-scenes look.  I hope I did it…their wedding day…justice.

Below are some of my favorites…however, I there are a TONS more in their SLIDESHOW…quite possibly the longest slideshow I’ve created to date.  Make sure to check it out.

Holly’s gorgeous Maggie Sottero gown

The making of a bride…

Meanwhile…across the street at the Lambertville House… the making of a very happy and excited groom!

We hit the bar right before heading over to The Lambertville Inn Station…

I must have made a silly face to get her to giggle…I doubt that the wine we were drinking had already hit us by that point.

Holly’s bouquet was sooo pretty!

So was Holly…

Oh, yeah, Wayne was pretty handsome too!

And yes, I did drag them outside in 20 degree weather to get pictures on the New Hope Bridge…

Then it was time to get married…

Oh, and the inscription on the ring read ”You are my goose”

Their first dance…

And, of course, my favorite part…

It was an amazing day, celebrating the love of two amazing people whom I love dearly. Holly and Wayne, I can’t begin to tell you how happy I am for you and how honored I felt to be able to document your wedding. I wish you a world of happiness.  Have fun in St. Lucia!  While you’re in your jacuzzi hot tub basking in the warm 80 degree sunny weather, we’ve had the pleasure of a snow day.

Oh, and before I forget…my fabulous assistant for the day, Alli Stark…love her!  She’s a fabulous photographer in her own right and I totally expect to see great things from her in the near future.  Alli, thanks sooo much for your invaluable assistance on Saturday!

Snow Day

At 4:55am I received the call.  You know the one…the one that kids (and adults) wish for every winter morning…the call that gleefully tells you to “enjoy your snow day”!  But really, 4:55am?  Any thought of going back to sleep was shot after that so I found myself downstairs putting on a pot o’ joe.

I could see the sun creeping over the rooftops and not a snowplow in sight.  It all looks so pretty when it’s just fallen and no one has tampered with it.  Still, no sign of the munchkin that lives in the room next to ours.  No sooner did I pour my cup of coffee when I heard him.  I waited for him to bolt down the stairs in his morning fit proclaiming that he just wasn’t going to go to school today because….he was sick, his foot hurt, his eyes weren’t opening, Dog Dog would be sad and miss him, the house would be left all alone and burgalers could come in and take his Millennium Falcon…  Nothing.  So, I went upstairs to find where he was hiding and came across this:

A pathetic, woeful look that only made me giggle.  And when he gave me sad eyes and asked, “do I have to go to school today?”  I was very happy to report, “No!  It’s a snow day!”  And that made him happy too.

Ashley + Gideon : Wedding | The Joseph Ambler Inn

Their story is so much sweeter than any wedding cake I’ve ever tasted.  Their love, so deep and profound…in a room full of people, they steal a moment for themselves and savor every sweet moment that they have with each other.  The first time that he proposed to her, the ring was a blade of grass.  Despite the lack of a diamond, the promise that it stood for still held true years later when the blade of grass was replaced with an amazing ring that shines as brightly as their love.

Theirs was an intimate wedding held at the Joseph Ambler Inn.  Surrounded by family and close friends, Ashley and Gideon said their I Do’s the day after Christmas since a few days later Gideon would be headed overseas for his tour of duty.

Her AMAZING gown…and shoes…can’t forget the shoes!

I love this image I caught with Ashley’s mom looking on as her daughter added the finishing touches to her ensemble…

The gorgeous bride…

And handsome groom…

Ashley and Gideon shared an emotional first glance before the ceremony.  Sheer perfection!

Their ceremony…right in front of a ginormous fireplace…just like Ashley had envisioned it…

Man and wife…their first kiss…

Their first dance…

Their first sweet taste of married life…

Just sooo cute…

Ashley and Gideon…I can’t even begin to thank you enough for allowing Mike and I to capture such an amazing time in your life. Your love showed us that through adversity and distance, love really does grow stronger.  You both will be in my thoughts this year, and though you’ll spend much of it apart, I’m positive that you are very close in each other’s hearts and that you’re love will not waiver.

Much love and appreciation!

Holly + Wayne: Sneak Peak

Yesterday, my best friend got married…

Today, I’m posting a sneak peak for her to check out before she heads off to St. Lucia (sooo jealous!)

I love you both!  Have fun in your jacuzzi spa!

On my mind…

So, I just inhaled a chicken salad sandwich and realized that life is moving way too quickly these days for my pace. Things are slipping through the cracks (non-essential stuff yet no less important to me), thoughts aren’t getting jotted down, memories are beginning to fade.  I just need 10 minutes to breathe and catch up.  Well…since we know that’s not going to happen, I’ve decided to use this platform as my catch all to every day musings, thoughts that I want to remember, things I need to do — you know, stuff that’s on my mind. And besides, I know that some of you out there really want to know how my brain functions, how I keep that Wonder Woman cape tied tight and how I do what I do.

In no particular order:

1.  The kids’ journals need to reflect my thoughts on 1/20/09.  I also need to update my journal. Yes, it’s vital that each kid have his/her own journal with my handwritten thoughts especially for them.  The same event means so many different things to each child and my relationship with them…

2. Nico needs a tie, Mike needs to have his suit altered and a new shirt, I need to try my outfit on again for Saturday’s wedding. Can I just tell you that it’s just hit me that I’m photographing my best friend’s wedding on Saturday and it’s totally freakin’ me out?!

3. I need to organize my “Organize Me” list. How sad is that?

4. Stationary — I’m having such a hard time finalizing my design.  It’s just sick the love affair I have with all things paper and typography.  Sick.

5. Florida.  So much that I need to get done in anticipation of Fefe’s wedding and upcoming shower.  And Fefe, I know your reading this and NO, I’m not going to tell you what surprises are up my sleeve!

6. Need to finish my year in review post.  It’s been in the DRAFT folder of this blog for  2 weeks now.  Do you even understand how hard it is to narrow down your favorite images?  It’s hard.

7. I really need to figure out if I’m even going to attempt to lose the 15 pounds I have hovering on my person.  I know I want to, I just can’t commit to a solid eating plan nor, and most importantly, can I give up Starbucks and cake.  It’s just not happening and at least I’m coming to terms with that. :)

8.  I really, really should go to the dentist.  I don’t have any time to go until November.  Is that bad?  hehe :)

Cheryl & Ken : Married!

It’s funny how small a world we live in.  When I first spoke with Cheryl about her impending wedding we chatted about the details, the family she was about to inherit, her girls and just shared in the general giddiness that surrounds a wedding.  It didn’t come out until a few phone calls later that the wonderful guys she is so madly in love with was Mike’s former boss.  I remember being on the phone with Cheryl one evening and asking Mike simultaneously if he knew Ken.  Immediately, Mike’s response was, “oh! He’s cool!”  Cheryl heard him and giggled saying, “It’s good to hear I’m not marrying a jerk!”   And true to form, Ken is wonderful…a doting father, a kind brother and most importantly, a strong partner and counterpart to Cheryl.

Their wedding was small…over Christmas break when all the important family members were scheduled to be in town.  Ever mindful of all the details of her wedding, Cheryl made sure that her wedding was accommodating to everyone’s schedule and sincerely appreciated the love and support that she received from her family as she walked down the aisle ready to say her I Do’s.

A smile never left her face, as is evident in the following pictures.  Their children beamed with pride and Ken?  Well, Mike says that he rarely showed emotion at work…that he was all business. On his wedding day, he certainly wore his heart on his sleeve.

Cheryl and Ken, thank you so much for allowing Mike and I to share in your day.  We wish you much love and happiness.

Now…let’s get to the good stuff! Pictures!

A quick moment they stole right after the ceremony…

Their reception was at the Bay Pony Inn and as usual, they did not disappoint.

And despite his allergies to cake, Ken obliged and indulged in the tradition…

Their revised, complete family….

Monique & Christopher : Married

Her Maggie Sottero wedding gown hung in her closet for two years.  She had fallen in love with it instantly…much like how she had fallen in love with Christopher.  All they needed was the right time.  This past December all the details finally came together and it was the perfect time.

I met up with Monique and her ladies at Bear Creek Mountain’s fabulous spaMemo to self: book spa getaway.  Though we were running a few minutes behind schedule and plans to do a first glance changed, I assured Monique that they couldn’t start without her and that she looked amazing.  And really, she did.

The dress…amazing.  Her shoes…totally fitting of Monique.  The jewelry she wore, beautiful.  It was all just perfect.

And then it was off to get married!  Their ceremony was held at the Zion Evangelical Church and it was just beautiful.  I was petrified of what my lighting situation was going to be, knowing that it was an old church and especially knowing the strict guidelines most church’s follow when it comes to photography.  But when I walked it, I let out a little gasp and fell in love. It, too, was perfect.

My favorite part of the entire ceremony was Monique walking down the aisle with her grandfather.  As I saw Monique tearing up under her veil, I feel myself getting caught up in the moment as well.

And then, as they walked down the aisle, Mike caught this moment…

My view…

And then…some formals at the church…

And some not-so-formal…

The reception was held at The Carriage House and despite the dinner rush that was going on in the restaurant part of the area, Donna and her crew rocked it out.

Monique was meticulous with her decor and details and turned the room in a wonderment of sparkling lights. Everything looked beautiful.

I loved this moment of their first dance…how everyone’s doing their own thing and Monique and Chris stole the moment for themselves.

And, of course, the cake.  Monique made the topper for Chris…a totally accurate representation of them (minus the blonde headed girl lego :)  )

The best part of their wedding was that a few days later they were going to do it all over again…in Vegas!  A totally different decor, totally different environment…but the same dress.  How awesome is that?!  Monique & Chris…I hope you hit it big in Vegas, but as far as I’m concerned, you two already won the jackpot when you married each other.

Thank you so much for having me capture your wedding.  TO SEE MORE IMAGES FROM THEIR WEDDING, CHECK OUT THEIR SLIDESHOW.

Saturday Morning|Our House

You would have thought that a blizzard was on it’s way.  The grocery stores were packed, the roads were being prepped with salt, the kids were all excited, the sled was being dusted off…snow was on it’s way!  My sister in Wisconsin, I’m sure, is rolling her eyes, saying to herself, “You want snow? Please, help yourself to the 20+” sitting in my driveway!”  Nonetheless, we were excited that instead of ice, we were going to get some snow for a change.

When I woke up this morning at the butt crack of dawn, it had just started.  I love getting up so early that the sun has barely peeked through the trees, Mike’s not home yet and the kids have a good 2 hours of sleeping time left.  Saturday mornings are just wonderful.

My desk’s morning greeting…

My perpetual Get It Done Already list…

And after a few hours…this sight.  He’s waiting for the Saturday morning Donut Fairy to visit and watching the snow fall outside.

What is this Donut Fairy, you ask?  Just some evil thing that Mike does just to tempt me with the yummy goodness that is a chocolate frosted donut.  Might as well be vanilla cake with raspberry filling slathered in buttercream and dressed with pretty edible flowers. Regardless, it’s another inch to the waistline.

The Donut Monger that is our son, however, LOVES the Donut Fairy and waits with baited breath for him to arrive every Saturday morning.

Funny Aside:  Earlier in the morning, I called Mike to see how he was fairing in the snow since he was still out delivering and Nico burst into the kitchen looking for his breakfast.  I handed the phone over and Nico quickly asked where he was and whether or not he had donuts already because, “remember, last weekend you forgot and I was grumpy all day and you didn’t like that.”

I missed a picture of the first donut. It was inhaled before I could grab the camera. I know it was chocolate frosted - one of two qualities this boy shows that he is, in fact, my son…chocolate frosted donuts and his love of bacon.

As for me…I hear the temptress that is Chocolate Frosted calling my name ever so sweetly.  She can sit there…in that box…next to Jelly and Chocolate and Boston Creme and Glazed.  LALALALALA…I’m not listening!

Enjoy your Saturday!

Erin & Dustin : Engaged! (Part One)

I don’t think I’ve slept a normal night’s sleep in 13 years…since Elia was born. Now I understand what my mother meant when she would say that she slept with one eye open. Besides the fact that Mike’s alarm blares at 2am (it’s AMAZING how he can sleep through that!), I’m a constant worrier and just a plain nut when it comes to sleep vs. things that have to get done.

This was one of those instances that has shown my complete nuttiness…yes, it really is 3:33am.

Erin and Dustin…AYKM!? Yes, they really are that beautiful. We met up for a mini engagement shoot and it was just ridiculously hard for me to narrow the images I snapped down to a manageable amount. We chose the church where they will be getting married this November — which just so happens to be the church that Mike grew up in as an alter boy. Beautiful!

I giggled when I read their engagement story…he dragged her all over a mountain side looking for the perfect spot to pop the question. They’ve been inseparable ever since.

Seriously…is she not going to make an absolutely gorgeous bride?!

The contrast between shooting half of their session on the snow covered ground vs. later on in the year, will be awesome! Erin and Dustin…I can’t wait until we meet up again!

Emily & AJ : Engaged!

I always tell me prospective clients that you have to have a relatioship with your wedding photographer. Everyone has to click. After all, your photographer is the vendor that you deal with the longest and the one that’s going to make your wedding day extra special by bringing out your personality and capturing who you really are.

Emily, AJ and I hit it off right from the start. We chatted for nearly 2 hours at our initial meeting and it was as if we had been B.F.F.’s since high school. So needless to say, I was super stoked when they hired me as their wedding photographer. Everything from their venue to their decor is right up my ally and I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of their lives and their day.

Their engagement session was beyond fun. We laughed our way through it and had a blast. Em and AJ are a photographer’s dream…they take direction, they are ridiculously in love and are totally smokin’ hot. The spot that they picked for their shoot totally defined them…add some awesome light to the mix and their session was out of this world! I loved it!

Here are some highlight shots…but for a ton more, make sure to check out their slideshow. I always say that the hardest part of my job is picking the song that goes along with their slideshow. I had theirs picked out by the end of our session!

Em and AJ…what can I say? We totally rocked it and I cannot wait until your wedding!
