Marisa & Chris: Married!

I had no idea whether or not I would be able to translate my vision of a wedding into photographs clients would like. I was mortified that no one would like my interpretation of their wedding.  Mostly, I was petrified of no one liking me or hiring me.  Then I talked to Chris and we chatted as if we had been friends for eons.  Then Marisa got on the speaker phone and on the spot I was hired as their wedding photographer.  I had no idea what I had said or done to win their trust but I was beyond thrilled. So thrilled that I couldn’t stop smiling the rest of the day.

And then we met and had dinner together in Philadelphia and our friendship was solidified.  I left dinner that night totally confident in my abilities and in my skill and I don’t think that until now, neither Chris nor Marisa have had any clue of what they mean to me.  They were the first clients that I ever really sold myself to and whom I asked in my sales pitch to entrust their wedding photography to me.

Despite the rain and the last minute change of plans, their wedding was nothing short of amazing…tons of love, tons of details, tons of happiness.

When I arrived at the bridal suite where Marisa was, there were, no kidding, 25 giddy girls in the room with her.  I shot all of her getting ready shots on top of a chair in a corner of the room.

Isn’t she beautiful?!

And yes, their wedding had Celtic feel to it…honoring Marisa heritage.

Her dad composed and played a song for them…totally awesome!

And though their wedding was to be outside in the middle of Celtic Fest, when the rain started pouring, Naomi and her staff at Hotel Bethlehem, transformed the Grand Ballroom into wedding wonderland…and it was beautiful!

Luckily, there were patches of no rain by the time wedding formals came around and we were able to go across the street to Moravian’s campus for some shots.

Their wedding cake was just red velvety yumminess…and we all know of my affinity for cake! In the SLIDESHOW are images of Marisa’s wedding gift to Chris…by way of cake.

Their first dance…

Since we couldn’t have Celtic Fest outside…we brought it in! Mad props to Maureen O’Grady’s Irish Dancers’ for their amazing performance.

Then…salsa and meringue…in honor of Chris’ heritage.

Finally, I’d be remiss if I didn’t thank my amazing second shooter, Lauri, for her invaluable assistance that day.  Lauri, you totally rocked it!

Marisa and Chris…you are amazing and I wish you a lifetime of happiness. Much love and appreciation!

Thankful

…for my husband and children.  They are certainly the reason I spend 24 hours in the kitchen during this holiday.

…for family — even though my people weren’t able to be here because we all live in different areas of the world, they were with me in spirit and I certainly raised my wine glass to them.

…for the wine my father-in-law brought. YUM!

…for the cookies my mother-in-law made for me.

…for the food that I spent all day cooking. Double YUM!

…for all the wonderful blessings that I have received this year.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Because after a weekend like the one I had, this made me happy

I pretty much plan my life via copious notepads. Free time is sparse so I try to use it wisely.  I had been complaining about my computer for the longest time and this past Friday, I finally broke down and bought one.

I love it! The speed on that bad boy is just awesome. HOWEVER..it’s so freakin’ technologically advanced that the most simple of applications cannot be loaded onto the machine because, well, the software companies aren’t up to date yet. URGH!!

So, needless to say…my plans for the weekend…out the window.

Earlier today I was just about ready to chuck the stupid thing out the window along with my plans…since I had been on hold with HP for 73 minutes…when I looked up at the time and saw that it was time for me to go and meet up with Emily and AJ for their engagement session! I was so stoked because these two are a freakin’ barrel of monkeys and I knew that spending time with them would mean that all my computer problems would be gone…if only temporarily. I did some mad shootin’ and we indeed had a blast.

And…as I uploaded their images onto my brank spanking new computer this evening…these two totally caught my eye and made me happy.

During the shot on the left I said out loud, “how cool would it be if the horses would kiss right now?!” and they did!

Fabulosity

I know I say that all of my weddings are awesome…but the one that’s coming up next will forever have a special place in my heart.  Stay tuned for more of Marisa and Chris’ fabulosity…

The Yerton Family

It seems like forever since I photographed a family…and I totally missed it.  With all the hustle and bustle that is wedding season, photographing this truly awesome family was a very welcomed change of pace.

This little dude…man he’s just fantastic.  Full of personality and smiles and all things boy.

And Miss Marissa…totally a girl after my own heart…needing new boots to rock out for pictures.

Together…these two were just awesome and I loved the connection between big sister and little brother.  So very heartwarming.

And seriously, could be get any cuter?!

I always love taking mom and dad aside during a photoshoot and giving them some pictures of just the two of them.  Once we become parents, it’s so easy to forget to get some pictures of just us. I think Aimee had mentioned that she and Jesse hadn’t had pictures taken together since their wedding…so yeah, totally time for an update!

And really…who can forget one of the most important members of the family?!

Guys…thank you so much for allowing me the priviledge of photographing your family and for spending the afternoon with me.  You guys rocked it!  FOR MORE IMAGES FROM OUR AFTERNOON TOGETHER, CLICK TO SEE THEIR SLIDESHOW.

Byer’s Choice Engagement: Holly & Wayne

When I called them to wish them a Happy New Year this past January, I never expected Wayne to tell me that he had finally popped the question.  As I took out my lasagna from the oven, with the phone pressed between my shoulder and my ear, I let out a happy squeal.  I was so insanely happy for them!

It’s been almost a year since they became engaged and as the preparations start to come together, I get happier and happier for them.  If ever two people are more deserving of happiness, it’s Holly and Wayne…two of our good friends.  Holly is the kindest, most awesome friend that ever engaged in vigorous shoe shopping with me.  Wayne is the most jovial, devoted, fun loving guy who is absolutely perfect for Holly. Together, I’m sure, they will live happily ever after…especially once Wayne just accepts the passion that Holly has for killer pumps.

I think I nominated myself as their wedding photographer during that initial conversation announcing their engagement.  I certainly wasn’t going to take no for an answer.  I also know that I nagged incessantly to take their engagement pictures despite Holly’s argument that she needed to lose 20 pounds and find the perfect outfit.  As the day for their session grew near, I became nervous wondering if I would be able to do justice to my dear friends’ pictures.  After all…they weren’t just any clients…they were my friends and I totally wanted to capture some great shots of them that would hopefully adorn their walls.

So…here they are…

Isn’t she pretty?!

Aren’t they cute?!

And because they are a ready made family…and I wanted to get some family pictures for them…

Did you notice who else wanted to be in the picture above?

Hol and Wayne…you guys are awesome and I am over the moon happy for you.  Thanks so much for allowing me to photograph you guys. It totally means the world to me!

Either way you slice it…

…history will be made today…whether it’s McCain as the oldest president elected to his first term, Obama as the first African American President or Palin as the first female vice president…it’s the most historical election of my lifetime (so far).

Wherever your day takes you today, however, make sure to go out an vote. It’s our duty and our privilege as Americans.

Happy November

Don’t forget that tonight Daylight Savings Time ticks into effect…one hour back.
