On the other side of the lens…part deux
May 30, 2008 – 2:33 pm
In trying to get Mike to understand what I was trying to get him to do with the camera, I took the camera from him and started snapping shot of him. He saw what I captured and says, “ooooohhhh…now I get it!”
Sheesh!

On the other side of the lens
May 30, 2008 – 2:10 pm
Could I just let everyone know now how freakin’ unnerving it is to be on the other side of the camera?! I have discovered a new found appreciation for my clients.
I have some pretty exciting stuff going on right now in the land of IMP (Isabel March Photography) and in preparation for all that’s going on, I needed some shots of myself. Enter Mike…who I’m trying to train as my second shooter. Now, a little bit of a tangent, Mike and I don’t work well together — we both know this — we’re both entirely too head strong, opinionated, anal and difficult. So, when I asked him if he wants to become my second shooter I totally know what I’m getting myself into. However, I ask him with the hopes that we can add something to the list of things we like to do together and to teach him a little bit more of what I do on a daily basis. He likes photography…has expressed an interest in it…and has a pretty good eye.
So, we go on this little mini shoot the other day. I’m trying to school him on some camera stuff and he just wants to play around with the camera himself. The funny thing is when things get underexposed or just out of whack he looks at me as if I’m crazy and says, “oh, now I get what you were telling me.”
The whole photoshoot was hysterical. There was me, hating to have my picture taken, trying to tell Mike how to hold the camera, what settings he should have…and there’s Mike, telling me not to squint, to look “normal”, trying to listen to my advice, though not really wanting to…and finally, Nicholas, who’s off running around at the park way in the distance. Unnerving…
Finally, though, Mike got these few shots and I think I’m okay with how they came out. So, with all that said, stay tuned for some fun stuff happening around these here parts within the next couple of weeks! I’m totally excited!

Flair
May 23, 2008 – 5:07 pm
I sat outside last night, shootin’ the breeze with my neighbor, when she blurted out…”you know, your photos just have a flair about them.” I giggled, because the first thing that came to my mind was the movie Office Space when Jennifer Aniston’s getting yelled at by her boss for not having enough pieces of flair.
My second thought was cutie Caden and the family shots that I got of his adorable family not that long ago. He’s the definition of flair…
And his pop? He had flair too!
The whole stinkin’ cute family had it…
And my favorite shot from the day… I love the way that this shot came out.
At all my shoots I try my hardest to catpure the essence of families, couples, kids. It’s nice to know that I also have some flair…certainly more than the requisite 15 pieces.
And…if you haven’t seen Office Space…GO SEE IT!
How old are your twins?
May 20, 2008 – 1:27 am
It’s a question we get all the time.
And while they may not be twins, they’re certainly joined at the hip and definitely a force to be reckoned with.
She’s a touch taller…for now…and 16 months older. She dotes on him and fights with him all in one breath. She the brains behind the brawn. She loves him unconditionally.
He’s lost without her yet gets sick of her 5 minutes after she’s in the house. He may be the younger of the two, but he’s definitely the stronger one. He’s extremely protective of her and lets her get away with whatever she wants.
Together, they are hysterical…with their private jokes, sneaky whispers, contagious giggles and little accolades. I stare at them and I close my eyes and wish and pray that their relationship grows and never fades…that it’s as strong as it is now.
My frick and frack. Love them to bits.

How old were you the first time that you saw the Thriller video? I was 7…not too much older than this guy.
A few days ago, I found the Michael Jackson Anthology CD and popped it into my car’s CD player. After jammin’ to Billie Jean, Thriller came on and as soon as he heard the spookiness of the song, he was hooked…just like every other kid in 1982.
When I told him there was a video he immediately wanted to watch it. I knew it was a moment I need to capture.

Seriously…could the video be any longer?!
Despite the wackiness of Michael Jackson…the man could still produce a jam. Love it!

I couldn’t have asked for a more amazing daughter. She’s incredibly bright, witty with a hint of sarcasm, loving and loveable…all rolled into this teeny petite form that reminds everyone of her mother at that age.
I remember telling her on the way to the location for this shoot that much like the Natasha Beddingfield song, her book is still unwritten. As much as her father and I would love to protect her and embed in her the lessons that life will teach her, there’s no way that we can and I think we’re slowly coming to grips with that. There’s so much that she’s going to have to figure out and that’s a good thing…it will certainly mold her into adulthood.
Though a part of me wishes that she were just a bouncy 2 year old that loved Bananas in Pajamas, a bigger part of me is excited to see what the future holds for her. I love watching her grow and mature and enter this new stage in her life.
I can’t wait to see how her story is written.
Banana, you are my life. Thank you for letting me be your mom. I am forever grateful.
