Bonnie: Class of 2008

The first time I met Bonnie was at Thanksgiving. During the hustle and bustle of getting ready to feed the family and surprise the grandparents for their wedding anniversary, she was super chill and super sweet. Her family was the first that I took out for pictures and photographing Bonnie was a photographer’s dream. She’s absolutely beautiful with her cascading red hair, beautiful, sparkly eyes, amazing smile and a sweet personality that oozed through each image.

I knew that photographing her senior portraits were going to be nothing short of spectacular. As I dragged her from location to location she remained chill, yet with a small tinge of enthusiasm since this was her moment to shine in front of the lens. She did just that…show herself for future generations to admire.

As she heads off to Philadelphia this fall for college, I hope she reflects on her years at high school as being special and memorable…I hope she had the time of her life.

Bonnie, it was a pleasure spending the afternoon with you and your mom. Both of you ladies are just wonderful and I’m glad that I’ve been inducted to the family as the official gravy maker and friend. All the best at the School of the Arts. I’m sure you’ll paint the world a more beautiful place.

Check out a video of Bonnie’s session below….

Still giving them something to talk about

Our song is not romantic. It’s not a sappy, slow dance that makes you say, “awww…how sweet!” It’s kind of a slap in the face song and honestly, it makes me chuckle whenever I hear it.

It’s Bonnie Rait’s, Let’s Give Them Something to Talk About. And we have. It’s never been our intention, but apparently it happens. It’s been the nature of our relationship…how it evolved, how it progressed, how it’s sustained.

Today is our 3 year wedding anniversary. I remember our wedding…me and him, Nicholas and Sydney, the Mayor of Souderton and my mother-in-law, snapping away on a very slow shutter speed. We had planned a very quaint summer afternoon wedding at Peddler’s Village with all of our family and friends and instead, 3 months earlier called his mom up on a Friday night and asked her if she’d take pictures of us in the morning since we had decided to get married at 9am. She struggled over what to wear and me? I just looked at the wedding gown I had just purchased a few weeks earlier hanging in the closet and shrugged my shoulders in total contentment.

Three months later — on the date we had originally picked to get married — we had what people still recall as the best “wedding reception” they’d ever been too. A totally chill, happy afternoon with tons of food, drink, family and friends. Just without the stress and the poof of a frilly dress. It was an event that gave them something to talk about.

Seasons

I remember the first time I drove down Tilghman Street in Allentown. A brisk, fall day and I was bundled up in a sweater that wasn’t made for the season, but rather for a Florida winter when it’s all of 65 degrees. Even though I was shivering, I thought the street lined with brightly covered leaves, being hit by the afternoon dusk, was one of the most beautful sights I had ever seen. I was hooked on Pennsylvania and the following May, Pennsylvania officially welcomed me when I crossed the state line ready to become one of it’s residents.
In Pennsylvania it’s definately obvious when one season is over and the next begins. I totally love it. It’s something that this native Floridian didn’t have growing up.

At every house we’ve lived I’ve always focused on one constant object that will show the evidence of a season’s change. This house is no different. Instead of a tree or flowers or leaves, I’ve chosen the hydrant across the street. Aside from the fact that it’s brightly colored, it definately serves as a marker for seasonal change.

This is the hydrant in February…dead of winter…on our one snow day this season.

and here it is this afternoon.

I’m curious to see what change our hydrant endures during the next two seasons.

And I shall call her…Mini Me

This weekend was a total blast! I spent it with my daughter in NYC celebrating her 13th birthday. While I have a ton of pictures to share, I thought I’d share the one that she insisted I print out and give to her to take back to Florida.

There are times I look at her and I see her father…without a doubt…despite the fact that everyone tells me that she’s exactly like me…in every single aspect (totally scary!) But there was something about this picture that made me look at it again and think that everyone is right. It’s probably the way our hair parts and that little cowlick in the front.

And how about that great Florida tan she has?! To think that when I first moved up here I had that great tan too…sigh…

Effective marketing

As a photographer, I have to constantly be marketing myself. I strive to come up with catchy and creative things to attract clients. I think I’m pretty creative but there are others who just take the cake and achieve exactly what they set out to do…lure consumers to their product.

The other night, we were at Rite Aid getting Nico’s prescription refilled and to kill the time we wandered up and down the aisles…cuz you know, it’s just sooo riveting at Rite Aid at 8pm on a Sunday night.

This caught my eye the second I spotted it and immediately broke out into hysterical laughter…so much that I HAD to buy it.

I still giggle everytime I see the bottle.

Rockstar

He watches Little Bill alot. And one of the things that Little Bill does every night before bedtime is lay out his clothes for the next day. I heart Little Bill for this.
Lately, he’s been picking out his shirts for the next day and putting them on his bed post. Last night I didn’t pay too much attention to what he was picking out.
This morning, he flew down the stairs and said:

“Quick, take a cool picture of me because I’m a Rockstar!”

So I did. I love this shirt!
