My family

Life as a Hipsta

It drains my iphone battery. Honestly, though, I can’t live without it.

As of late we’ve been doing a TON of traveling…both personal and for work. I’m tired. BUT, we’ve had a blast! I vowed that when I was on vacation I wouldn’t touch the camera.  In fact, I left my beloved Marky at home and put Mike in charge of our trusty point and shoot camera.  I carried nothing but my iphone. However, on my iphone I have the Hipstamatic camera app and SWOON every time I see a picture come from it. I’m obsessed. So, I’ve decided to host a new feature on ye ‘ol blog…Life as a Hipsta.

So, to let you see a glimpse…my glimpse…of where we’ve been for the past three weeks.

First up…our vacation to the House of Mouse.  The kids and Mike had never been and we had such a phenom time that the kids still haven’t stopped talking about it!

A few days later we went to Niagara Falls where we were completely soaked as we left the Cave of Winds and the Maid of the Mist.  The kids were amazed and LOVED it. Oh…and there’s one picture below that’s for my brother-in-law. :)

Our last whirlwind adventure took us to Rehoboth Beach for an AH.MAY.ZING! beach wedding. But, in our spare time, we ate, hung on the boardwalk, ate salt water taffy, ate some more and just chillaxed.

Fun Times. For Sure!

The Story of Us

It’s mine, his and ours.  Real simple, yet complicated at the same time.

We’re the strict ones. The disciplinarians. The ones that make you do homework and take showers. The ones that take you on fun vacations and exotic destinations. Together, we call our little cottage home. As of late, a complete, bursting at the seams home. And we couldn’t be happier. All of us.

So, with all of us at home, we grabbed the opportunity and took a field trip for some much needed family pictures.

This is us (and Sophie, too).

And them.

Elia.

Travis.

Sydney.

Nicholas.

At their request for an infamous jumpin’ shot.

The way we feel. Because honestly, there are only 2 of us and 4 of them. So outnumbered.

This will greet you the second you walk in through the doors of our home.

So, that’s it. Us. Complex yet simple. Crazy in love with each other…even though we’re always at each other’s throat. This zany family of mine…le sigh…just makes my heart melt.

Home

After 10 days of being away…she’s back.  AND! She brought someone home with her!

What will you celebrate?

It’s been in the works for nearly two years. We decided to wait for the perfect age.  The age of wonder. The age of awe. The age of all things fun and exciting.  We are celebrating that the time is now.

We’ve packed up and we’re off to visit Mickey and the gang in the House of Mouse with the little people in our lives.

I *heart* my Mac

It’s better than a text.  Better than a phone call.  Better than a letter via pigeon carrier.  I love my Mac for multiple reasons but probably the bestest reason of all is because of this…

While he’s in Florida and I’m up here, we can still see each other every day. I can’t wait ’til he comes home :)  He makes scarce appearances on the blog…but Internet, meet Travis. My true clone.

Life with a Teenager

It’s like no other experience.  Life with a teenager is all sorts of emotions rolled into a ball.  We go from being furiously angry at her to belly laughs.  She’s a fun one…this teenager of ours.  Constantly testing patience, limits, boundaries…  We’ve experienced bad t.v., been exposed to late night munchies, felt worry like no other and then pride at the simplest of accomplishments that prove to us that we really are good parents and that she really has been listening.  She’s come such a long way, in such a short amount of time.  Life with a teenager…our teenager…couldn’t be more exciting and more rewarding…despite the hair loss and aggravation.

E…You are so very loved :)

Happy Momma’s Day!

One lost 50 pesetas, the equivalent of maybe a nickel in today’s economy, because I wasn’t a boy. The other always wanted me to be a girl. Both love me in ridiculous amounts.

Together, they had a powerful hand in raising me. They gave up honeymoons to take me to the zoo. They spent their salary on my wardrobe. They offered advice when it wasn’t solicited. They came looking for me when I ran away from home (yes…to NYC…I was 16). They held my hand when I cried. They smacked me upside the head when I needed it. And given the opportunity, I know they’d do it all over again. However old I am, however long I have been married and a mother to my own children, these women, whom I cherish and adore and admire, still are an everyday part of my life.

My sisters are amazing. Without them, I certainly wouldn’t be the person that I am today.

Happy Momma’s Day to two of the most AMAZING mother’s I know :)  I love you!

My mother…well, she is indescribable.  Just loved and missed and admired and thought of every single day.  There was no better mother to epitomize Mother’s Day…and honestly for her, everyday was and is mother’s day. She taught us what being a mother is.

Fantastic Friday Favorites

Happy Friday!

Around here it has been eagerly anticipated :)

And so, in celebration of Fantastic Friday, I’m going to share my favorite things about today…

Fresh cut flowers from the florist.  My favorite roses, those fun little berry things and the aroma coming from the bouquet.

Nico and his obsession with Dog Dog.  It’s been his constant since he was 8 months old and I fear the day that Dog Dog will have to retire his duties as faithful companion.  He’s old. He’s ragged. Yet, oh so very loved.  Best $10 Aunt Pinky EVER spent.

It’s official…as if it wasn’t already known…I’m an Apple Junkie.  This morning’s giddiness when FedEx arrived was almost embarrassing. Internet, meet iPad. My crazy, ridiculously expensive and unnecessary play thing.  While I do have tons of fantastic ideas in mind for it, the fact that I’ll be able to play LineUp with a much bigger screen just makes me SWOON!

Just Breathe

It’s an obsession. I can’t be left alone in the same aisle as them.  It’s the texture, the importance, the possibilities. It’s my love for sticky notes. I have an unabashed passion for them. I have a ridiculous amount of them. Those that have seen my copious to do lists know that I provide little squares…or circles, depending on the day…so that checking off those things that I’ve jotted down are marked off in style. Yes, I know. I’m weird.  So, to find sticky notes already decorated for me? SWOON!

Today is the first day in two weeks that I will be able to sit at my desk for longer than 30 minutes. I’ve been on the go, go, go and today is the day that I break out the new sticky pads in order to get ready, get set and GO…again. I just have to remember to breathe.

My sister complains that she hasn’t seen me in FOREVER!

Yesterday, I took the family with me on one of my meetings.  The fun meeting.  The one at the Elkins Estate. Mike had the camera and was shooting…although I was told it was not in my direction. Then, I hear laughter…  While I would never post something like this, I just had to laugh when I saw it.  It’s described as my, “WTH is your problem?!” face.  But more importantly, it totally reminds me of my mom…when did I start looking like her?!

Oh, and the reason I was making this face…  It’s all about her…don’t you know?!

…because it’s all about me!

That’s the reason I gave them when they complained and whined and protested as I asked them to all climbed on the couch.  Previously, the littles had been doing their homework in my office, Mike was chatting to his birds, Elia was complaining about the dishes and I had been sitting behind my computer monitor catching up on emails.

And then I looked to my right and then my left.  The windows were open to either side of me. The sun was shining brightly and there was the most pleasant breeze coming in.  And I felt lucky.  Lucky to have all these crazy fun people in my life, the squawking birds, the tedious homework, the loads of laundry piled on the kitchen floor, the list of items to cross off a to-do list, all of it. And I called them over to our big yellow couch right then and there…”drop what you’re doing and come over now”…and told them to look my way.

And this is us, right now. Squawky beaky pigeons and all.
